Queering Peace and Security Policy Brief Series (2022-2025)

A Policy Brief Series on LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Gender, Peace and Security

Although they have been published for some time now, I wanted to return to the policy brief series I co-produced while working at Queen’s University Belfast brings together scholars, advocates, and practitioners to advance queer and feminist perspectives within peace and security policy and practice.

At a time when mainstream peace and security frameworks continue to marginalise the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in conflict affected contexts, these briefs offer rigorous, evidence-based analysis and concrete policy recommendations to address that gap. Beginning with a foundational exploration of how the Youth, Peace and Security agenda might be queered, the series moves through questions of queer feminist mobilisation, transitional justice, and the specific harms faced by LGBTQ+ communities in Colombia, before turning to the practical implementation of Women, Peace and Security commitments for lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women.

Spanning from 2022 to 2025 and reaching audiences in both English and Spanish, the series reflects a sustained and growing body of work committed to building more inclusive, just, and accountable approaches to peace.
